Elaine Knopf

Elaine joined Roffe Swayne in June 2017 and works across our forensic accounting and corporate finance teams.

Elaine has worked on a variety of matrimonial disputes within our Forensic accounting team, undertaking both Form E reviews and business valuations carried out as both single joint expert and expert for a party to assess the value of interests held in limited companies and groups. Her insolvency experience is beneficial wherever there are insolvency proceedings or solvent liquidations involved. She has also assisted with company valuations required for corporate finance transactions.

Elaine began her training in the audit team at a top 10 accountancy firm and after qualifying moved to the Business Restructuring team in London. Whilst there she passed the JIEB examinations for insolvency. In 2013, Elaine moved to Hong Kong, and joined a local accountancy firm as manager in their Insolvency & Restructuring team.

Work highlights

  • Assisting the wife in divorce proceedings where the husband’s interest in a successful European company was being realised by a liquidation of a UK-based holding company, complicated by the re-investment of some of those proceeds in a related company. Elaine reviewed correspondence from the liquidators to establish the value due to the husband from the liquidation, prepared a schedule for the wife of the resultant amounts due to her and provided a number of questions to be put to the husband’s solicitors to establish what further amounts could be due to her as a result of the re-investment of proceeds.
  • Assisting with the preparation of a valuation report for a client involved in “transaction at below market value” legal proceedings. Elaine was responsible for preparing calculations of the value of the company at the time of the transaction, considering the most appropriate valuation methodology, the wider logistics market and key customer contracts, as well as critically analysing a report prepared for the opposing party, in order to draft the report.
  • Assisting with the high profile administration of a championship football club administration, trading for a significant period of time, which was highly scrutinised by fans and media. Elaine was responsible for managing of the day-to-day trading of the club, working closely with the club’s staff. Elaine prepared forecast business models and forecast trading cash flows, working closely with partners to formulate appropriate strategies. She presented business models and trading forecasts to potential purchasers.

Outside of work Elaine enjoys running and cooking.
