Grayshott Pottery Case Study

Sector: Pottery

Location: Grayshott, Surrey

Client contact: Ed Snell

Roffe Swayne Partner: Jeremy Gardner

Established in 1956, Grayshott’s origins can be traced back to the Compton Pottery built at the turn of the century by Mary Watts, wife of the famous Victorian painter Frederick Watts.

Today Grayshott is famous for producing fine stoneware and porcelain shapes and designs. They also provide catering-ware to restaurant and public house chains, including Frankie & Benny’s. In recent years, they acquired the Dartington Pottery, including the design rights.

Main services provided by Roffe Swayne:

  • Quarterly business performance monitoring
  • Business advice and support for the Directors
  • Outsourced payroll services

The business is run on a day to day basis by two Directors, Ed Snell and Chris Greenaway. All the employees are part of the Trust and the Directors report to a Board of Trustees. Roffe Swayne provides the Directors with support and advice on the running of the business as well as the financials. The focus is very much on maximising the value of the business for the benefit of all the employees.
