Holly's experience to date

What's working in professional services like?

Very varied, which makes it more interesting and enables me to develop my ability and work with all sorts of different people and businesses. It's a fast paced environment and every day is different from the last.

Why Roffe Swayne?

Roffe Swayne is a medium sized firm and I was able to have experience auditing and preparing accounts for all different sized businesses from small sole traders up to large multi-million pound turnover companies. Because it is slightly smaller than the larger firms I was given more responsibility earlier on.

When did you join?

I joined in September 2005 after having a year out from University. I have now completed all my study and therefore am a qualified Chartered accountant (ACA).

How have you found it?

It's been a challenge but an enjoyable one! Very different from school or university and a lot of motivation is required to study and work full time. Since finishing my studies I have continued to learn and develop. Although the training is tough, Roffe Swayne manage to make it enjoyable by ensuring there is a good work-life balance - including regular bowling outings!

And the people?

The people really make Roffe Swayne the firm it is, everyone has been so friendly and they are always available to help if required. Managers and partners are keen to pass on their knowledge, which has really helped.

What's been the best moment so far?

It has to be finally becoming a qualified Chartered accountant. It is such a good feeling to realise all the hard work you have put in has finally paid off!

And the worst?

No bad moments to date, but you continuously face challenges as part of the job which I like.

And your plans for the future?

To continue my learning - there is always more to learn and I want to make sure that my technical ability is at the highest standard.
